Really, I’m Not at Home! That’s a Wireless Call Box!
I’m not new to wireless call boxes since I’ve been using one at my store for some time now. My customers have used it to call for assistance. As for me, I’ve used it to direct the staff more efficiently. I decided to switch to a wireless call box for my intercom system at home when my house was remodeled a few months back. Going wireless has certainly made my lawn look better and has saved me the cost and inconvenience of rerouting the wires of my old intercom. I installed a MURS Wireless Call Box XT Outdoor Intercom at the gate and got a MURS Multi-Mile Two-way Handheld Radio to receive the calls from the call box.
What I enjoy the most about my wireless intercom system is how convenient answering calls had become. I always put the radio in my pocket so I can answer the gate from anywhere in the house. I also bring my radio along while jogging around the neighborhood. The product was boasting of its long range so why not? No one usually calls at my house so early in the morning; but there was this one time when I was about half a mile away from the house, a lady from our Homeowner’s Club rang to remind me of some of my duties that are quite overdue. I apologized for my oversight but the lady was insistent to be let in so we can have a “quick talk.” No talks are ever quick with this lady so I was quite happy that I was out. I explained that I’m currently not at home but she wouldn’t believe me. It didn’t help that the audio of the callbox and radio was so good, so she got the impression that I was just hiding inside the house. She was so upset.
“Really, I’m not at home! That’s a wireless call box!” was all I can say.
It was cleared up after I dropped by her house on my way home, showing up at her doorstep, sweat and all. I showed her the radio that I brought along. She was so impressed that she actually forgot about our “quick talk.”
Lessons learned. For me, it was to take my Homeowners’ Club duties more seriously. For the lady, to be more trusting of her neighbors. For us business owners, this wireless call box really works well!
